BeatWise perform vibrant, high-energy, powerful, traditional rhythms of Guinea, West Africa. These are the rhythms that gave birth to the blues, hip-hop, rock and funk. Sacha Allen, Simone Lang, Anne Harkin, Brandon Lowe Elise Bialylew, (drummers), with Sarah Derum and Andy Werner (dancers), have been performing as BeatWise and studying together for two years, including intensive periods in West Africa. Mohamed Bangoura, arguably Australia's most outstanding djembe player, regularly appears as guest artist with BeatWise. The dynamism and exuberance of his performances have the crowd up and jumping. Together they have produced a CD which presents the culmination of 2 year's work. This self-titled CD presents 8 rhythms of fast, exciting dance music. |

IsfahanAnne Harkin is joined on this CD by Luke Plumb and Malcolm Fielding, who play together under the name Balkanology. The music is a selection of tunes from the eastern Mediterranean area including the Balkans and Turkey, and also includes some original material. Driving rhythms from Anne complement inventive chord and melodic mandolin and mandola work from Luke and Malcolm. Many of the tunes are suitable for circle dance or belly dance.
